SABCO - SOCIÉTÉ DES SABLIÈRES DU COTENTIN
Created in 1977,
SABCO started its activity by extracting sand in the fairway of Carteret port in
the Manche department. Since this type of extraction was jeopardized by environmental regulations, in 1989 SABCO opened a site in the heart of the Cotentin, at Lieusaint near Valognes, with a Triassic sand deposit.
Lieusaint is still today the main site, with an authorised extraction capacity of 400 000 t/year,
the largest in the Cherbourg region.
SABCO also operates a site at Saint Germain de Tournebut (8 km away) on the same geological formation.
In 2002, with the start of excavation work on the solid rock quarry at Les Moitiers d’Allonne,
SABCO created a holding, the SAS Le Haut Pitois including:
- SABCO and its Lieusaint and St Germain de Tournebut sites
- SECMA, which at the time operated the quarry at Les Moitiers d’Allonne
- TERRALAUNE, a plant hire company working for sister companies and local businesses.
- ARENA, industrial sand operator in Tunisia
The SAS (French simplified joint stock company) Le Haut Pitois currently has a headcount of 19, with a turnover of 5 million euros.
Highly committed to the expansion of its companies, the Haut Pitois team continues to develop projects in partnership with its customers.
